Renato Scarpa (Milan, September 14, 1939 – Rome, December 30, 2021) was an Italian actor, considered one of the most important and prolific character actors in national cinema. His long career is marked by memorable performances, often in supporting roles that have left an indelible mark on the collective imagination. He became widely known to the general public thanks to iconic characters such as the pedantic Sergio in Carlo Verdone's *Un sacco bello* (1980) and the hypochondriac Robertino in Massimo Troisi's *Ricomincio da tre* (1981), with whom he also collaborated on *Il postino*. He worked with major Italian directors, including the Taviani brothers, Marco Bellocchio, and Nanni Moretti, for whom he played the headmaster in *The Son's Room* (2001) and Cardinal Gregori in *We Have a Pope* (2011). He also had significant roles in international productions, such as *Don't Look Now* (1973) and *Suspiria* (1977). For his performance in *We Have a Pope*, he won the Nastro d'Argento for Best Supporting Actor, crowning a versatile and acclaimed artistic career.
