Smelsky

Stanislav Smelsky, born in 1983, is a Russian conductor, known primarily for his work at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. He trained at the city's conservatory, first in choral conducting and later in opera and symphony conducting, making his debut at the Mariinsky in 2013 with Tchaikovsky's opera *Iolanta*. Since then, he has conducted a vast repertoire that includes Russian masterpieces such as Mussorgsky's *Boris Godunov* and Tchaikovsky's *The Queen of Spades*, as well as ballet classics and Italian operas such as *Aida* and *La bohème*. His conducting is praised for its technical rigor and interpretive depth. Among his accolades is the third prize at the All-Russian Conductors' Competition in 2015. He was also nominated for the prestigious "Golden Sofit" theatre award for his conducting of the ballet *Paquita*.
