
Sofia Nicolaescu
Sofia Nicolaescu, born in Romania in 1989, is an Italian writer, poet, and translator. She established herself in the literary scene with her debut novel, *La tana* (2021), a work that explores the themes of memory, trauma, and roots. The book was very well received by critics and earned her prestigious awards, including the Premio Campiello Opera Prima, the Premio Severino Cesari Opera Prima, and the Premio Salerno Libro d'Europa. In 2024, she published her second novel, *Il passo della morte*. Alongside her work as an author, she works extensively as a translator from Romanian, through which she helps to introduce some of the most significant literary voices from her country of origin to Italy. Her work is characterized by precise prose and a deep psychological exploration of her characters, who are often positioned on the border between two cultures.
