Sonny Barger
Ralph "Sonny" Barger (1938-2022) was a key figure in outlaw motorcycle club culture. A founding member of the Oakland charter of the Hells Angels in 1957, he soon became its most charismatic and internationally recognized leader. His career included writing; he authored the bestselling autobiography *Hell's Angel: The Life and Times of Sonny Barger and the Hells Angels Motorcycle Club*, and other books, including novels and non-fiction works on motorcycle culture. In film and television, he had minor roles in films such as *Hells Angels on Wheels* (1967) and a recurring role in the TV series *Sons of Anarchy*, where he played Lenny "The Pimp" Janowitz. Although he received no formal accolades, Barger is universally considered the public face and most influential symbol of the Hells Angels, cementing his image in the public consciousness as the archetype of the outlaw biker.
