Vasili Nikandrov
Vasili Pavlovich Nikandrov (1919-1945), a Senior Sergeant in the Red Army, was a renowned Soviet sniper during World War II. He fought on the Eastern Front, distinguishing himself with his exceptional marksmanship, particularly during the Battle of Stalingrad. Throughout his military career with the 216th Guards Rifle Regiment, he was officially credited with killing 247 enemy soldiers and officers, making him one of the most effective snipers of the conflict. In addition to his combat role, he contributed significantly to the training of numerous other snipers, passing on his techniques and experience. He continued to operate during the Soviet advance into Poland, where he was killed in action in January 1945. For his extraordinary courage and heroism, on March 24, 1945, he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, the nation's highest honor. He was also awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner, and the Medal "For the Defence of Stalingrad".
