Walter Sande (Denver, November 14, 1906 – Chicago, November 22, 1971) was a prolific American character actor whose career spanned from the late 1930s to the early 1970s. A familiar face in film and television, he specialized in roles as authority figures or tough characters, such as police officers, sheriffs, and antagonists. Among his most memorable film performances are his portrayal of Police Sergeant Art Jansen in the classic *A Place in the Sun* (1951) and his appearances in notable films such as *To Have and Have Not* (1944), *Sunset Boulevard* (1950), and *Ace in the Hole* (1951). He was equally active in television, with appearances in dozens of series, and played the recurring role of Captain Horatio Bullwinkle in *The Adventures of Tugboat Annie*. Although he never won major awards, his reliability and consistent presence established him as one of the most dependable and recognizable supporting actors of his era, contributing to the success of countless productions.
