Yvette Etiévant (Paris, 30 December 1922 – Paris, 17 March 2003) was a French theatre, film, and television actress. Trained at the Centre d'Art Dramatique, she became closely associated with Jean Vilar's Théâtre National Populaire (TNP), where she emerged as a prominent figure. Her film career, which began with a role in Robert Bresson's *Les Dames du bois de Boulogne* (1945), was extremely prolific and marked by intense performances in supporting roles. Her most celebrated performances include her role as the energetic postwoman in Jacques Tati's *Jour de fête* (1949) and her appearances in films by major directors such as Alain Resnais's *La guerre est finie* (1966), Costa-Gavras's *L'état de siège* (1972), and Massimo Troisi's *Le vie del signore sono finite* (1987). Although she did not receive any major individual awards, her greatest recognition was the consistent esteem of critics and directors, who established her as one of the most respected and reliable character actresses of post-war French cinema. She also worked successfully in television until the 1990s.
