
Majid Majidi
Majid Majidi, born in Tehran in 1959, is an acclaimed Iranian director, screenwriter, and producer, considered one of the most important figures of contemporary Iranian cinema. His work sensitively explores themes such as poverty, childhood, resilience, and spirituality, often setting his stories in rural contexts or among the working classes. He achieved international fame with *Children of Heaven* (1997), the first Iranian film to receive an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film, consolidating his reputation with subsequent works such as *The Color of Paradise* (1999), which explores the world of a blind boy, and *Baran* (2001), which focuses on the plight of Afghan refugees. Another notable film is *The Song of Sparrows* (2008), whose protagonist won the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. His works, awarded at numerous international festivals including Montreal and Venice, are characterized by a strong visual lyricism and a profound humanism that transcends cultural boundaries.
