Alex Proyas
Alex Proyas is an Australian film director, screenwriter, and producer of Greek descent, born in Egypt. His career took off in the 1980s directing music videos for artists such as INXS and Crowded House, where he developed a dark and atmospheric visual style. He achieved international fame with the cult film *The Crow* (1994), a gothic work that was highly successful despite the tragic on-set death of its star, Brandon Lee. His reputation as a visionary auteur was solidified with the subsequent science fiction neo-noir *Dark City* (1998), which was critically acclaimed and presented in competition at the Cannes Film Festival. He later directed commercially successful blockbusters such as *I, Robot* (2004), starring Will Smith, and the thriller *Knowing* (2009). Throughout his career, Proyas has received several accolades, including awards from the Australian Film Institute and Saturn Award nominations, establishing himself as one of the most original voices in fantasy and science fiction cinema.
