Carlos Reygadas

Carlos Reygadas, born in Mexico City in 1971, is a Mexican film director, screenwriter, and producer, considered one of the most radical and influential voices in contemporary arthouse cinema. After abandoning a career in international law, he made his directorial debut with *Japón* (2002), a film for which he received a special mention for the Caméra d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. His career is closely linked to Cannes, where he has presented almost all of his films, including the controversial *Batalla en el cielo* (2005) and *Stellet Licht* (Silent Light, 2007), a spiritual drama set in a Mennonite community for which he won the Jury Prize. His style, characterized by long takes, the use of non-professional actors, and a profound exploration of human nature and landscape, achieved further recognition in 2012 when he won the Best Director Award for the autobiographical and visually bold film *Post Tenebras Lux*. His later works include *Nuestro Tiempo* (2018).
