Chantal Akerman (Brussels, 1950 – Paris, 2015) was one of the most influential Belgian directors and a key figure in world cinema.

She is best known for her masterpiece, *Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles* (1975).

This film, a meticulous analysis of the domestic routine of a widow, has become an iconic work of feminist and modernist cinema.

Her style was characterized by long, static shots and a minimalist, observational approach. Akerman explored themes such as everyday life, female alienation, domestic space, time, and Jewish identity.

Other notable works include *News from Home* (1976), an epistolary documentary about New York, and *Les Rendez-vous d'Anna* (1978). Akerman is recognized as a pioneer of avant-garde cinema, capable of reinventing cinematic storytelling with a unique sensibility.
