Charles Reisner

Charles Francis Reisner (1887–1962) was an American director, actor, and screenwriter, primarily active during the silent film era and the early Golden Age of Hollywood. He began his career as an actor, appearing in supporting roles in Charlie Chaplin's films such as *The Kid* (1921), where he played the neighborhood bully, and working as his assistant director. He later moved into directing, becoming a prominent figure in comedy. His most celebrated work is the co-direction of the Buster Keaton classic *Steamboat Bill, Jr.* (1928), considered a masterpiece of comic cinema. His career continued successfully into the sound era, directing stars such as the Marx Brothers in *The Big Store* (1941) and working on numerous productions for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Although he did not receive major awards, his contribution is recognized for his solid professionalism, his mastery of comic timing, and his collaboration with some of the greatest comic geniuses of the 20th century.
