Christian Nyby
Christian Nyby (1913–1993) was an American film editor and director, best known for his collaboration with Howard Hawks and for directing the science fiction classic *The Thing from Another World*. His career took off in film editing, working on acclaimed films such as *The Big Sleep* (1946) and *Red River* (1948), for which he earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Film Editing. In 1951, he directed his most famous film, *The Thing from Another World*. Although Nyby is the sole credited director, the stylistic influence and on-set supervision of producer Howard Hawks are widely acknowledged by critics. Subsequently, his work focused almost entirely on television, where he became a prolific director of episodes for highly successful series such as *Perry Mason*, *The Fugitive*, *Gunsmoke*, *Bonanza*, and *Kojak*, solidifying his reputation as a skilled industry professional.
