Eleanor Coppola, born Eleanor Jessie Neil (Huntington Beach, May 4, 1936 – Rutherford, April 12, 2024), was an American director, documentarian, and writer. Her career is inextricably linked to chronicling the cinematic creative process, particularly that of her husband, Francis Ford Coppola. Her most acclaimed work is the documentary *Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse* (1991), based on footage she shot during the difficult production of the film *Apocalypse Now*. For her direction of this work, Coppola won an Emmy Award, earning widespread international recognition for her ability to capture the behind-the-scenes tensions and challenges. She also directed the making-of documentaries for films such as *Marie Antoinette* and *The Virgin Suicides*. Later in life, she made her narrative feature film directorial debut with *Paris Can Wait* (2016) and *Love Is Love Is Love* (2020), exploring personal themes with an intimate and reflective style. Her contribution to cinema lies in her unique and valuable perspective on the world of filmmaking.
