Errol Morris is an American film director and documentarian, considered one of the most influential and innovative figures in contemporary non-fiction film. His career achieved international recognition with *The Thin Blue Line* (1988), an investigative film that, through the use of direct interviews and stylized reenactments, helped exonerate a man wrongly sentenced to death, redefining the boundaries of the investigative documentary. A signature technique of his is the use of the Interrotron, a device he invented that allows subjects to look directly into the camera while maintaining eye contact with the interviewer, creating an effect of great intimacy. In 2004, he won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for *The Fog of War*, an analysis of the career and decisions of the former U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara.
