
Fred Walton
Fred Walton, born in 1949, is an American film director and screenwriter, known primarily for his contributions to the thriller and horror genres. His career was launched by the success of his debut film, *When a Stranger Calls* (1979), a classic suspense film developed from his earlier short film, *The Sitter*. The film is celebrated for its tense opening sequence and has become a benchmark for the genre. His other notable works include the slasher film *April Fool's Day* (1986) and the thriller *The Rosary Murders* (1987), starring Donald Sutherland. Walton has also worked in television, directing the sequel *When a Stranger Calls Back* (1993). For his debut film, he received the Special Jury Prize at the Avoriaz International Fantastic Film Festival, solidifying his reputation as a master of tension.
