Gregg Araki

Gregg Araki is an American director, screenwriter, and producer, considered a leading figure of the New Queer Cinema. His career took off in the 1990s with the "Teenage Apocalypse Trilogy," consisting of *Totally F***ed Up* (1993), *The Doom Generation* (1995), and *Nowhere* (1997). These works defined his distinctive style, characterized by a lo-fi aesthetic, themes of youth alienation, explicit sexuality, and surreal plots. He gained wider critical acclaim with *Mysterious Skin* (2004), an intense drama that explores the long-term consequences of child abuse. His filmography, often showcased at the Sundance and Cannes Film Festivals, also includes the comedy *Smiley Face* (2007) and the surreal *Kaboom* (2010), for which he won the first-ever Queer Palm. His work, which also includes the television series *Now Apocalypse*, continues to explore identity and disillusionment with a bold visual approach.
