Irving Rapper (1898-1999) was an American film director, known primarily for his work during the Golden Age of Hollywood. He began his career at Warner Bros. as an assistant and dialogue coach, honing his skills before making his directorial debut in 1941. His fame is mainly associated with the melodramas starring Bette Davis, including *Now, Voyager* (1942), considered his masterpiece, *The Corn Is Green* (1945), and *Deception* (1946). Skilled at directing actresses to elicit intense performances, his filmography also includes the George Gershwin biopic *Rhapsody in Blue* (1945) and the 1950 adaptation of Tennessee Williams' *The Glass Menagerie*. Although he never received an Oscar as a director, he directed *The Brave One* (1956), for which Dalton Trumbo won the Academy Award for Best Story under a pseudonym. For his contribution to the film industry, he has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
