Jim Sheridan, born in Dublin in 1949, is an Irish director, screenwriter, and producer, a central figure in his country's cinema. His international career took off with his debut film, *My Left Foot* (1989), which earned him his first Oscar nominations for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. This work inaugurated his acclaimed collaboration with actor Daniel Day-Lewis, which continued with powerful films such as *In the Name of the Father* (1993), winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival and nominated for seven Academy Awards, and *The Boxer* (1997). Through these films, Sheridan explored the political and social tensions of Ireland, with a particular focus on stories of injustice and complex family relationships. Another of his key works is *In America* (2002), a semi-autobiographical story about the experience of an immigrant family. Overall, he has received six personal Oscar nominations. His filmmaking is known for its intense direction of actors and its ability to blend personal drama with historical context.
