Marco Bechis
Marco Bechis is an Italian film director, screenwriter, and producer, born in Santiago, Chile. His work is deeply marked by his personal experience in Argentina, where he was kidnapped and detained in a clandestine torture center during the military dictatorship. This trauma is at the center of his most celebrated film, *Garage Olimpo* (1999), a work that received wide international acclaim, including the Un Certain Regard award at the Cannes Film Festival, and initiated a trilogy on memory continued with *Hijos/Figli* (2001). He subsequently directed *La terra degli uomini rossi - Birdwatchers* (2008), which was presented in competition at the Venice Film Festival and addresses the struggle for survival of the indigenous Guaraní-Kaiowá people in Brazil. His cinema, characterized by a strong social commitment, focuses on the themes of political violence, historical memory, and the defense of human rights.
