Michael Moore
Michael Moore, born in Flint, Michigan, in 1954, is an American filmmaker, author, and activist, and one of the most well-known and controversial figures in contemporary documentary cinema. He achieved international fame with *Roger & Me* (1989), an investigation into the impact of the General Motors plant closures in his hometown. In 2003, he won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for *Bowling for Columbine* (2002), a critical analysis of gun culture in the United States. His subsequent film, *Fahrenheit 9/11* (2004), a harsh critique of the Bush administration following the September 11 attacks, earned him the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, a highly prestigious award rarely given to a documentary. His filmography also includes notable works such as *Sicko* (2007), on the American healthcare system, and *Capitalism: A Love Story* (2009), consolidating his reputation as a social critic through a satirical and direct style.
