Nanni Moretti
Giovanni "Nanni" Moretti (Brunico, August 19, 1953) is an Italian film director, actor, screenwriter, and producer, considered one of the most influential figures in contemporary Italian cinema. He made his debut in the 1970s and captured the attention of audiences and critics with *Ecce bombo* (1978). His early films are characterized by an autobiographical and ironic style, often centered on his alter ego, Michele Apicella, through whom he analyzes the individual neuroses and socio-political contradictions of his generation. With *Caro diario* (1993), he won the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival, inaugurating a more mature and personal stylistic phase. The peak of his international recognition came in 2001, when he won the Palme d'Or at Cannes with *La stanza del figlio*, an intense and dramatic exploration of family bereavement. His subsequent work, which includes films such as *Il caimano* (2006), *Habemus Papam* (2011), and *Il sol dell'avvenire* (2023), continues to intertwine private stories with reflections on the crisis of politics and society. Throughout his career, he has received numerous David di Donatello and Nastro d'Argento awards.
