Paweł Pawlikowski, a Polish director and screenwriter born in Warsaw in 1957, moved to the United Kingdom at a young age, where he began his career making acclaimed documentaries for the BBC before transitioning to feature films. He achieved his first major international success with the film *My Summer of Love* (2004), which won a BAFTA Award. His worldwide recognition came with films shot in the Polish language and in black and white: *Ida* (2013) won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, in addition to numerous other awards, including five European Film Awards. His subsequent film, *Cold War* (Zimna wojna, 2018), earned him the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival and received three Oscar nominations, including one for Best Director. His style is distinguished by its formal rigor, evocative aesthetics, and the exploration of themes such as historical memory, exile, and Polish identity in the 20th century.
