Satoshi Kon (1963-2010) was an influential Japanese film director, animator, and manga artist, celebrated for his works that explore the blurry boundary between reality, dream, and illusion. After starting his career as a manga artist and collaborating with Katsuhiro Otomo, he made his directorial debut in 1997 with the internationally acclaimed psychological thriller *Perfect Blue*. His career continued with masterpieces such as *Millennium Actress* (2001), co-winner of the Grand Prize at the Japan Media Arts Festival, the comedy-drama *Tokyo Godfathers* (2003), and the television series *Paranoia Agent* (2004), which analyzes mass hysteria. His last completed feature film, *Paprika* (2006), was presented in competition at the Venice Film Festival, consolidating his reputation as a visionary auteur.
