Shelton Jackson "Spike" Lee (born in Atlanta, Georgia, 1957) is an influential American director, screenwriter, producer, and actor. Known for his socially and politically engaged cinema, he made his debut with *She's Gotta Have It* (1986).

His distinctive, often provocative style explores themes of race, identity, racism, and African American social dynamics, often setting his stories in urban communities.
