Tobe Hooper

Tobe Hooper (1943-2017) was an American director, screenwriter, and producer, considered a pivotal figure in the evolution of modern horror cinema. His fame is inextricably linked to the cult film *The Texas Chain Saw Massacre* (1974), a low-budget work that redefined the genre with its raw, quasi-documentary style and its atmosphere of visceral terror. His career reached another commercial peak with *Poltergeist* (1982), produced by Steven Spielberg, which successfully combined supernatural horror with family drama. His other significant works include the influential television miniseries *Salem's Lot* (1979), based on the novel by Stephen King, the slasher film *The Funhouse* (1981), and the satirical sequel *The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2* (1986). Although his later filmography was inconsistent, his impact on cinema was profound, establishing him as one of the masters of terror and earning him accolades at various festivals dedicated to the genre, such as the Sitges Film Festival.
