Víctor Erice
Víctor Erice, born in Karrantza, Spain, in 1940, is a Spanish film director and screenwriter considered one of the most influential and auteurist figures in European cinema. His career is distinguished by a sparse filmography of exceptional artistic value. His debut, *The Spirit of the Beehive* (1973), set in Francoist Spain, is an internationally acclaimed masterpiece that explores childhood and the impact of cinema. This was followed by *El Sur* (1983), a poetic work on the father-daughter relationship, famously left unfinished for production reasons. In 1992, he directed *The Quince Tree Sun*, a documentary about artistic creation that won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. After a thirty-year absence from feature filmmaking, during which he made short films and installations, he returned to directing with *Close Your Eyes* (2023). His contemplative style and the psychological depth of his characters have earned him numerous awards, including the Pardo d'onore at the Locarno Film Festival and the Donostia Lifetime Achievement Award at the San Sebastián Film Festival.
