Vincente Minnelli (1903-1986) was an American film director, a key figure of Hollywood's Golden Age, and an undisputed master of the musical for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. His style is distinguished by its exceptional visual elegance, sophisticated use of Technicolor, and meticulous attention to set design and costumes, elements through which he explored the psychology of his characters. He directed masterpieces of the genre such as *Meet Me in St. Louis* (1944), *An American in Paris* (1951), which won the Academy Award for Best Picture, and *The Band Wagon* (1953). His versatility is also evident in acclaimed melodramas and comedies, including *The Bad and the Beautiful* (1952), *Lust for Life* (1956), and *Father of the Bride* (1950). In 1959, his work was crowned with the Academy Award for Best Director for the musical *Gigi* (1958), which won a total of nine statuettes, including Best Picture. His influence on the visual language of classic American cinema remains profound and celebrated.
