Ziad Doueiri

Ziad Doueiri is a Lebanese director and screenwriter born in Beirut in 1963. Raised during the civil war, he moved to the United States to study film, beginning his career as a camera assistant for Quentin Tarantino on films such as *Reservoir Dogs* and *Pulp Fiction*. His directorial debut, the acclaimed *West Beirut* (1998), is a semi-autobiographical work that earned him the François Chalais Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. His filmography explores the complex social and political dynamics of the Middle East, as is evident in later works such as *The Attack* (2012) and especially *The Insult* (2017). The latter film earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language Film, and its lead actor, Kamel El Basha, won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival. Doueiri has also directed episodes of the French television series *Baron Noir*, confirming his versatility and international prominence.
