Alexander Antonov

**Alexander Antonov (1898-1962)** was a Soviet actor, an emblematic figure of silent cinema. He is universally recognized for his iconic role as Vakulinchuk, the martyred sailor, in Sergei Eisenstein's masterpiece, *Battleship Potemkin* (1925).

His career was closely associated with Soviet avant-garde cinema, where he often portrayed proletarian characters: strong, resolute, and, at times, tragic revolutionary heroes. In addition to *Potemkin*, he also collaborated with Eisenstein on *Strike* (1925) and *October* (1927), solidifying his image as the representative face of the working and peasant classes. His acting style, though typical of the silent era, was characterized by a powerful screen presence and incisive acting, capable of communicating emotional intensity with memorable gestures and gazes.
