André Bervil

**André Bervil** (Paris, November 12, 1895 – Paris, May 19, 1980) was a French actor.

With a career spanning silent films to the golden age of French cinema, Bervil established himself as a prominent character actor, often playing authoritative or ambiguous figures. He appeared in French cinema masterpieces such as Abel Gance's *Napoléon* (1927), in which he played Joachim Murat, and fundamental works of poetic realism and post-war cinema.

Among his most memorable roles were the inspector in Julien Duvivier's *Pépé le Moko* (1937), the Captain in Marcel Carné's *Le Quai des brumes* (1938), and Count Édouard de Montray in Carné's famous *Les Enfants du Paradis* (1945). He also contributed to Henri-Georges Clouzot's *Le Corbeau* (1943).

His understated style and stage presence allowed him to bring depth to often secondary but crucial characters, making him a recognizable and appreciated figure in French cinema.
