Chantal Darget

**Chantal Darget** (1939-1992) was a French actress known primarily for her film career in the 1960s and 1970s. She left an indelible mark on French auteur cinema, particularly through her collaboration with Jean Eustache.

Her most celebrated role is undoubtedly that of Liliane in **"The Mother and the Whore"** (1973), where she delivered a raw and memorable performance, becoming an icon of existential malaise and of a certain post-Nouvelle Vague cinema. She also worked with Jacques Rivette in **"L'amour fou"** (1969).

Darget was appreciated for her naturalism and her ability to portray complex female characters, often fragile, intense, or tormented, exploring relational and social dynamics with authenticity. Her screen presence was always striking, making her an emblematic figure of that cinematic period.
