
Charles Durning
Charles Durning (1923-2012) was a highly regarded American character actor. With his kind yet authoritative face, he specialized in memorable supporting roles, often portraying figures of power or authority, such as policemen, military personnel, politicians, or bureaucrats, but also common men, sometimes gruff, sometimes surprisingly kind.
Among his most iconic appearances were Lieutenant Snyder in *The Sting* (1973), Detective Moretti in *Dog Day Afternoon* (1975), and Les Nichols, Jessica Lange's doting father, in *Tootsie* (1982).
