
Dell Henderson
**Henderson, Dell** (New York, June 23, 1877 – Los Angeles, December 2, 1956) was a prolific American actor and director, an emblematic figure of silent cinema.
He began his career with D.W. Griffith at Biograph, directing hundreds of short films and appearing in many others. As an actor, he is remembered as a versatile character actor, often specializing in roles as authoritative but frequently clumsy or comical figures, such as policemen, doctors, patriarchs, or bureaucrats.
Among his most significant appearances are supporting roles in Griffith's masterpieces, *Nascita di una nazione* (The Birth of a Nation, 1915) and *Intolerance* (1916). He also worked for Mack Sennett's Keystone. His career extended into the sound era, with over 1200 film credits, albeit in minor roles.
