Edith Meinhard

Edith Meinhard (1893-1958) was a German actress renowned for her roles in silent films and early sound cinema. Her career is closely linked to director G.W. Pabst, with whom she delivered some of her most memorable performances, often embodying modern, complex, and at times disillusioned female characters from the Weimar Republic era.

Among her most significant films are masterpieces such as *Die Büchse der Pandora* (Pandora's Box, 1929), where she gave a remarkable performance as Countess Geschwitz, and *Tagebuch einer Verlorenen* (Diary of a Lost Girl, 1929).

Meinhard was appreciated for her restrained and realistic acting style, capable of imbuing depth into often marginal or tragic figures, making her a distinctive face and a symbol of German social cinema of her time.
