**Edward Van Sloan (1888-1964)** was an American actor, primarily known for his roles in the horror genre, especially in classic Universal films.
His fame is inextricably linked to **Professor Abraham Van Helsing**, the expert vampire hunter in Tod Browning's masterpiece *Dracula* (1931), a role he reprised in *Dracula's Daughter* (1936). Equally memorable was his portrayal of **Doctor Waldman**, Doctor Frankenstein's mentor, in James Whale's celebrated *Frankenstein* (1931).
