Elizaveta Svilova

Elizaveta Svilova (1900-1975) was a pivotal figure in Soviet cinema, known primarily not as an actress, but as an innovative editor and documentary filmmaker. Wife and artistic collaborator of Dziga Vertov, her work is inextricably linked to the experiments of the "Kino-Eye" group.

Her most celebrated work is the editing of *Man with a Movie Camera* (1929), considered a masterpiece of avant-garde cinema. Svilova defined a dynamic and rhythmic visual language, essential for Vertov's documentary style and unconventional narration. Although she did not hold acting roles, her influence on editing and film structure was immense, shaping the perception and understanding of "cinéma vérité."
