Ellen Widmann
**Ellen Widmann** (1894-1960) was a German actress, primarily remembered for her film roles during the Weimar era and the early sound era.
Her most renowned performance is arguably that of Frau Beckmann, the unsettling landlady, in Fritz Lang's masterpiece *M - Il mostro di Düsseldorf* (1931). She had previously collaborated with Lang in supporting but memorable roles in *Die Nibelungen* (1924) and *Metropolis* (1927), where she often portrayed common or working-class female figures.
Widmann was known for her ability to embody supporting characters, often elderly women, mothers, landladies, or authoritative figures, with a strong stage presence and a measured but incisive acting style. Her expressive face and solid presence contributed to defining the realism of many films from the period.
