**Emilio Echevarría** (born in Mexico City) is a Mexican actor known for his intense screen presence and distinctive character roles in international cinema.

He gained international recognition with his unforgettable portrayal of "El Chivo," a redeemed former hitman, in Alejandro G. Iñárritu's *Amores Perros* (2000). This role made him an emblematic figure of the new Mexican cinema and opened doors for subsequent collaborations with the same director in *Babel* (2006), and with other important filmmakers.

Among his other significant films are Alfonso Cuarón's *Y Tu Mamá También* (2001) and Walter Salles' *The Motorcycle Diaries* (2004), where he played Che Guevara's father. Echevarría is renowned for his complex and often ambiguous characters: hard-faced men, sometimes criminals, paternal figures, or individuals marked by life.
