**Everett McGill** (Miami Beach, October 6, 1945) is an American actor known for his imposing physical presence and intense roles, often as an antagonist. He achieved international fame with Jean-Jacques Annaud's *Quest for Fire* (1981), where he portrayed a primitive man in an almost silent role, demonstrating remarkable non-verbal expressiveness.

He was a frequent collaborator of David Lynch, appearing in *Dune* (1984), the series *Twin Peaks* (as Big Ed Hurley), and *The Straight Story* (1999). McGill was often cast as menacing or charismatic characters, such as the werewolf in *Silver Bullet* (1985), the sinister businessman in *The People Under the Stairs* (1991), or the villain in *Licence to Kill* (1989).

His career is characterized by enigmatic, physically powerful characters with strong dramatic intensity. After 1999, he retired from acting.
