Fred Kohler (1888-1938) was an American actor, known for his prolific career spanning both silent and sound cinema. He specialized in tough-guy roles, often portraying antagonists, ruthless gangsters, outlaws, or corrupt policemen. His imposing presence and rugged face made him ideal for menacing characters.

Among his most memorable roles are Buck Mulligan in Josef von Sternberg's *Underworld* (1927), considered one of the first gangster films, and Deroux in John Ford's *The Iron Horse* (1924), a classic silent Western.
