Fred MacMurray

Fred MacMurray (1908-1991) was an American actor with a long and diverse career, which began in the 1930s. Initially known for his "nice guy" charm, he excelled in screwball and romantic comedies.

However, he successfully transitioned to more complex and darker roles. His role as Walter Neff in Billy Wilder's film noir *Double Indemnity* (1944) established him as an actor capable of great ambiguity, revealing a cynical and vulnerable side. He collaborated again with Wilder in *The Apartment* (1960), where he delivered another memorable performance as the cynical Jeff D. Sheldrake.

In the 1960s, he became a familiar face to Disney audiences, playing good-natured and often eccentric characters in comedies such as *The Absent-Minded Professor* (1961). MacMurray was a master at bringing to life characters who concealed unexpected nuances behind a reassuring exterior, demonstrating remarkable versatility.
