
Gary Lockwood
**Gary Lockwood** (born John Gary Goslin, Glendale, February 21, 1937) is an American actor, known for portraying young protagonists who were often idealistic or tormented.
He gained visibility in the early 1960s with films such as Elia Kazan's *Splendor in the Grass* (1961), alongside Natalie Wood and Warren Beatty, and *Wild in the Country* (1961) with Elvis Presley. His most iconic role is undoubtedly that of astronaut Frank Poole in Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece, *2001: A Space Odyssey* (1968), whose performance is central to the unforgettable sequence of the confrontation with HAL 9000.
Lockwood often distinguished himself in roles as honest and capable young men, sometimes facing overwhelming forces. Also active in television, he starred in series such as *The Lieutenant* and had appearances in *Star Trek*.
