Gaston Séverin

Gaston Séverin (1885-1954) was a prolific French film actor, known for his many character roles. Active primarily between the 1920s and 1950s, he collaborated with the greatest directors of the golden age of French cinema.

Among his most memorable performances are those in masterpieces such as Jean Renoir's *La Grande Illusion* (1937), where he often played authoritarian yet nuanced figures. He was a recurring presence in Marcel Carné's works, appearing in crucial films such as *Le Quai des brumes* (1938) and *Le Jour se lève* (1939), and also in Julien Duvivier's *Pépé le Moko* (1937).

Séverin was appreciated for his imposing presence and his ability to embody characters who were often serious: members of the bourgeoisie, officers, policemen, or professional figures. His style was characterized by measured acting and a notable gravitas, contributing to shape the atmosphere of the films in which he appeared.
