Gene Kelly
**Kelly, Gene (1912-1996)**
Eugene Curran "Gene" Kelly was an iconic American actor, dancer, choreographer, and director, a central figure of Hollywood's Golden Age musicals, particularly at MGM.
Renowned for his athletic, energetic, and innovative dance style, Kelly fused classical ballet with elements of tap, modern dance, and sports, creating a more accessible and masculine form. He often played roles of an optimistic and charming "everyman."
His film career is inextricably linked to masterpieces of the genre. Among his most celebrated films are *An American in Paris* (1951), which won the Academy Award for Best Picture, and the iconic *Singin' in the Rain* (1952), where he directed (uncredited) and starred in scenes that have become cinematic history. Other successes include *Anchors Aweigh* (1945) and *On the Town* (1949). His vision helped elevate the musical to a cinematic art form.
