George Sanders

**George Sanders** (Saint Petersburg, 1906 – Castella y Gacetas, 1972) was a British actor of Russian origin. Renowned for his icy charisma and his ability to embody sophisticated, cynical, and often ambiguous or villainous characters.

His film career saw him emerge in the 1930s with the roles of detectives The Saint and The Falcon, which established his image as a shrewd gentleman. He cemented his reputation with memorable performances such as Jack Favell in *Rebecca* (1940) and the hedonistic Lord Henry Wotton in *The Picture of Dorian Gray* (1945).

His most iconic and acclaimed role was that of the caustic theater critic Addison DeWitt in *All About Eve* (1950), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He continued to distinguish himself in numerous films, also lending his unmistakable voice to the character of Shere Khan in the Disney classic *The Jungle Book* (1967). Sanders remains an icon of sardonic elegance and sharp wit in Hollywood cinema.
