Georges Poujouly

Georges Poujouly (1940-2000) was a French actor, celebrated for his intense youthful performances that made him an iconic figure of 1950s French cinema.

He gained international fame with the role of the astute Michel in Henri-Georges Clouzot's acclaimed psychological thriller *Les Diaboliques* (1955). In this film, his innocent character confronts adult horror. His ability to convey vulnerability and shrewdness made him memorable.

Previously, he had already showcased his talent in Claude Autant-Lara's *Le Blé en herbe* (1954), known in English as *The Game of Love* or *The Ripening Seed*. Later, he starred in Louis Malle's film noir *Ascenseur pour l'échafaud* (1958), released as *Elevator to the Gallows*.

Poujouly distinguished himself by portraying sensitive boys and adolescents, often taciturn or keen observers of complex and morally ambiguous situations, acting as a catalyst or an innocent witness in adult worlds. While he continued to work, his career as a lead actor diminished in subsequent years, as he largely dedicated himself to voice acting.
