Giorgio Albertazzi
Although renowned for his extensive theatrical career, Giorgio Albertazzi also left a significant mark in cinema. Known for his innate elegance, impeccable diction, and penetrating gaze, he was often cast in roles as intellectuals, aristocrats, or enigmatic and tormented figures.
His most iconic performance is perhaps that of the enigmatic man in Alain Resnais' *Last Year at Marienbad* (1961), which earned him international renown. He also acted in Gillo Pontecorvo's *Kapò* (1960) and Joseph Losey's drama *Eva* (1962). Albertazzi demonstrated his versatility, as seen in his role as the desperate Professor Bencini in Mario Monicelli's *An Average Little Man* (1977), thereby distancing himself from his more typical characters. His distinctive style made him an unforgettable face of Italian and international auteur cinema.
