Giovanna Galletti (1911-1992) was an Italian actress, an emblematic figure of Neorealist cinema. Her career is inextricably linked to post-war masterpieces, working with directors of the caliber of Roberto Rossellini and Vittorio De Sica.

The role that cemented her fame was that of the ruthless Ingrid, the Gestapo agent in Rossellini's *Rome, Open City* (1945), a performance that made her celebrated for its dramatic intensity and her ability to embody evil. She then appeared in another Rossellini classic, *Paisà* (1946), and in De Sica's *Bicycle Thieves* (1948), albeit in a minor role.

Often portraying strong female characters, sometimes ambiguous or everyday characters, Galletti left her mark for her authenticity and depth, becoming a distinctive face of post-war Italian cinema.
