Giulietta Masina
Giulietta Masina (1923-1994) was an iconic Italian actress, known primarily as the muse and wife of director Federico Fellini. Her film career was indissolubly linked to her husband's works, who elevated her to a symbol of vulnerable and resilient humanity.
She became renowned for unforgettable roles that highlighted her pantomime and expressive eyes. Her portrayal of Gelsomina in *La Strada* (1954), a naive and tragic figure, brought her international fame. Equally memorable was her role as the prostitute Cabiria in *Le Notti di Cabiria* (1957), a pure-hearted character who never loses hope despite adversity.
Often compared to Charlie Chaplin for her ability to embody pathetic yet dignified characters, Masina portrayed simple, suffering women endowed with incredible strength of spirit and humanity. Her unique style, a blend of the clownish and the tragic, made her one of the most beloved and recognizable performers of post-war Italian cinema.
